If Long Journey, the title of the debut album of new
singing sensation Naptali, describes the artist's way from his home
county Clarendon to reggae mecca Kingston some years ago or his
transatlantic move to Germany’s Oneness Label, the producer of Long Journey, is unknown. But one thing is for sure: unkown will not be Naptali’s status any more after the release of Long Journey.
With a distinct, yet deep and sweet voice, resembling no other artiste, Naptali delivers 14 tracks, most of them having a definite hit potential. Apart from Fire Burn which has been released earlier by African Beat on the Bad Boys riddim and More Love (featuring Lutan Fyah and Arofat) on Oneness’ General Key riddim all songs are brand new. And they deserve another attribute: timeless.
The mainly one drop riddims, recorded live, let the listener go back in time to the era of classical roots, but in combination with Naptali’s powerful voice Long Journey marks a completely new definition of modern roots.
Being a protégé of Luciano, Naptali sends out lyrics with meaning and message, talking about the struggles of the homeless (And They Cry feat. Sara Lugo), family love (Grandma), Rastafarian issues (Redeemer) or citing words of wisdom (Law of Attraction). Long Journey will find its way into the dancehalls but functions equally good at home for having pure joy and fun with some damned good music.
